Although these days people often share the softcopy of any documents and files. But the printer is still one of the crucial devices for offices. People also use printers at home for kids’ projects and other work. New models of printers provide Wi-Fi connectivity. You can also connect the printer to lots of devices such as PCs, phones, tablets, etc. If you want to share the printer among several devices then you can add it to the shared network.
Adding a printer to the network using a WPS connection
You can connect the printer to the network using the WPS. If your router has a physical WPS pin then you can connect it directly without using the standard method. After connecting to Wi-Fi, you can share your printer device with other systems. But all printers can’t connect to the network. Check the printer specifications and then try to connect it. Go to the printer settings and set it for wireless connection.
- Go to the printer device
- Press the Wi-Fi button
- The lamp must start blinking
- Go to the router immediately
- Enable its WPS pin
- Your printer will start searching the network
Go to the printer screen and check the available network list. Choose the correct SSID and then click on the Next button. The printer lamp will get steady. You can also confirm the printer network connection by checking the network printout. The SSID should be your network name and your status must be active. When both of the details are correct then your printer is connected.
Install your printer driver
You also require a driver to use the printer. The printer will connect with the network easily. But the printer will only communicate with the PC if it has the driver. The driver is like a communication bridge between PC and printer. Check the printer’s model and brand. Now search its driver on the web. For PC, you can also use the CD. After installing the driver, go to the Add devices page. Tap on Add Printer and the PC will start searching for the available printer devices. Your printer name will pop up immediately. Choose the printer name and provide the password. After connection, the printer will show Active status and you can take the printouts easily.
Issues in connecting printer to Wi-Fi
Many users reported that the printer is not connecting to Wi-Fi. Several issues can get the printer into connection error. You must check the printer settings and router for the connection.
Check the printer settings
Your Brother printer wont connect to Wifi if the wireless printing settings are wrong. Many users forget to change the printer settings for Wi-Fi connection. Go to the printer device and check the settings. Open Connection type and set it for the Wi-Fi connection. Now again search for the available networks. Choose the network name for your connection. In case your printer settings are invalid then reset it. Reset your printer device to the factory settings. Open the printer settings and search for the reset option. Select the Factory reset option and hit the Confirm button. After resetting the printer to the factory setting, you have to reconfigure the printer to the PC. Now set the printer to wireless connection correctly and then check for the error.
Disable firewall
Printers often show connection errors on Wi-Fi due to firewalls. The firewall is used to prevent the network from threats and unwanted connections. However, sometimes the firewall also restricts the printer’s connection sometimes. It suspects the incoming connection request as suspicious and doesn’t allow the connection. Check the firewall on the network and disable it temporarily. Now retry to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi. After creating the connection, take the printouts and enable the firewall.
Use standard printer connection method
Your printer will not connect to Wi-Fi directly if the router doesn’t support WPS. You have to use the printer’s standard wireless connection method. For this method, you need a driver. Download printer setup and then install on the computer. Now run the driver and follow the on-screen instructions to add the printer to the network. After connecting the printer to the network, you can share it with other devices wirelessly.
