A career as a massage therapist Seattle, WA, can be incredibly rewarding, especially if you love helping people feel better about themselves and their health. But what does the job really entail? What is it like to work as a Massage Therapist Seattle, WA? To give you a better idea of what working as a massage therapist in Seattle might look like, I asked my colleague Ryan Rieseberg to share his typical day in the life of a massage therapist in Seattle, WA with me so I could share it with all of you!
The morning routine
I wake up every morning and get my coffee, grab some breakfast and head to work. I arrive at my first appointment around 9:30 AM and spend about an hour with that client. Afterwards, I head over to my second appointment for another hour. Sometimes it’s not possible to have two appointments back-to-back because they’re at different locations or on different sides of town. After lunch I usually have an afternoon session with a client too before heading home for dinner.
The first client
I woke up to my alarm at 5:00am and was out of bed by 5.15am. I put on my clothes for work and made myself breakfast before heading out the door at 6:00am. My first client scheduled an appointment for 8:30am so I arrived at their house with plenty of time to set up my massage mat and table. I worked on some knots in their back and shoulders for about an hour before they left feeling relaxed. The next two clients had appointments for 11:00am. Both clients left happy with more flexibility in their necks and backs. The last client had an appointment at 1:00pm and needed help with neck pain that started after a car accident he had 2 months ago.
The lunch break
I’m so hungry, she says. It’s been hours since I’ve eaten anything.
Well, I reply, let’s take a break. We can grab some food from that Thai place down the street.
We head over to Thai house and order two vegetarian dishes and two drinks. We sit down on some cushions while we wait for our meal. It was nice to get out of my chair for a bit and just chat with her.
The second client
It was time for my second client of the day. I arrived at their home and they greeted me with a hug. I walked through to the massage room and set up my table. The client laid down on their stomach so that I could start massaging them. We talked about what they were looking to get out of this session as well as about how their day went so far. After about thirty minutes we switched sides and I massaged them from behind for another thirty minutes before finishing up.
The commute home
I’ve never been one for long commutes, but when I was practicing massage therapy at a clinic that was located in downtown Seattle, I had no choice. As I drove home from work that day with my left leg propped up on the gas pedal and my right hand clutching tightly to the steering wheel with white knuckles, I couldn’t help but feel exhausted and defeated.
The evening
I usually spend my evenings working on homework or making dinner. If I’m not doing either of those things, I might be playing video games with my friends or relaxing outside. Usually, I’ll get home from work around five o’clock and have dinner with my family. After dinner, I’ll do homework until it’s time for bed.
