PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On May 1, 2025, a Calvert County jury convicted Toniray Joseph Silva, 41, of Chesapeake Beach, of 3 counts of sexual abuse of a minor and 3 counts of 2nd degree rape. The charges carry a maximum punishment in excess of 100 years imprisonment.
Sentencing is scheduled on August 4, 2025, before the Honorable Mark S. Chandlee.
The State’s evidence revealed that Silva sexually assaulted the victim on numerous occasions in 2022 and 2023. On some of those occasions, he provided sleeping medication to the victim. The abuse went undetected until the victim reported it to a school teacher in late 2023 and Silva was arrested.
This case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca N. Cordero with assistance from Victim/Witness Advocate Paula Shrawder.
