Keele University
Keele University is located in the village of Keele in Staffordshire, a county in north-west England on the border of Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park. The nearest towns are Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-Under-Lyme. The nearest major towns to Keele are Sheffield and Manchester, both 80km by road. Keele’s population is very small and made up mainly of students. The nearest international airport to Keele is Manchester which has flights to North America, Europe, Africa and some Asian destinations. Domestic connections to London Heathrow are also available. London is 90 minutes by train and 3-4 hours by car. The lowest average temperature in the Keele area is 0 to 1.5 degrees in January and 21 to 22 degrees is the highest average temperature in July.
HISTORY
The University College of North Staffordshire was founded in 1949 on the grounds of Keele Hall, a stately home near Newcastle-Under-Lyme. Originally founded as an experimental college dedicated to a broad curriculum and an interdisciplinary form of study, it was conceived as a “people’s university” to encourage the pursuit of education within the working class. Keele University was granted university status by royal charter in the year 1962. Since then, it has earned a reputation for teaching medicine, nursing and midwifery, physiotherapy, and science.
LOCATION
Keele is a campus university with most halls on or off site. A free bus pass is provided to residents of Liberty Court and a night bus runs every evening until one hour after the Student Union closes.
RANKING
Keele is currently ranked between 501 and 600 in the Times Higher Education rankings. Keele is ranked between 601st and 700th in the Shanghai Tong Jaio ranking. Keele is not a member of the Russell Group of Universities.
According to the National Student Satisfaction Survey, Keele University is ranked 27th.
INTERNATIONAL

Keele is located on a rural campus set in 620 acres of parkland. It houses an Earth Sciences Teaching Unit, an astronomical observatory and an arboretum. An Islamic center, art gallery, shops and cafes are also located on campus. Keele currently offers 80 sports and cultural clubs and societies, and has its own philharmonic orchestra.
ACCOMMODATION
There are five halls of residence on the main campus and one, Hawthorn, very close in the village of Keele. Additionally, Liberty Court is a private residence run in partnership with the University and located in Stoke, 30 minutes away by bus. In total, Halls of Residence and Liberty Court accommodate 70% of all full-time students. Each of the halls on campus houses between 600 and 700 students in single rooms or independent apartments. All accommodation is self-catering with access to kitchens, but dining packages (for breakfast and dinner) are available at the Hawthorn Restaurant next to Hawthorn Hall.
The lowest price for a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen is £91.56 per week.
There is no university accommodation with catering.
