Get a feel for curves & twists
To turn, you have to bend one foot in front of the other.Once you’ve figured that out, you can dare the first curves and turns. In order to steer slightly to the left or right when driving straight ahead, you have to tilt the corresponding foot a little further forward than the other – but only minimally. For a spin on the spot, tilt one foot slightly forward and the other back. Of course, this works in both directions and at different speeds.
Practice getting on and off without help
Driving works? Great, then you can now face the next hurdle, which initially caused worried faces in our test: getting on and off safely. Every time I tried to get off the hoverboard UK, the board would move one way and me the other. Because when you get off you have the problem from the beginning again: If you only stand on it with one foot, balancing is all the more difficult and the board moves uncontrollably in one direction or the other. Balancing is also counterintuitive at first. Actually, you want to push the board away from you when it comes toward you. If you then tilt your foot backward to stop it, the effect will naturally be amplified.
So our tip is this: hold on to a wall or railing, place one foot on the e-board and concentrate fully on balancing with the first foot. If the board doesn’t move forward or backward, quickly place the second foot in place. But keep trying to keep your balance and not start driving straight away. You practice dismounting in the same way – just backward. If that works, you can hold on to the wall or railing a little less each time. At some point, it will work without any help – don’t give up!
