We always find it surprising to find a pizza fan who hasn’t yet tried to visit a Sbarro. The pizza chain has been around since 1956, and today it has more than 600 locations spread out over 28 countries all over the world. When we find that fan, we immediately get them to a Sbarro location (plenty of malls have one) and then introduce them to the joys of New York-style pizza and pasta.
To really make sure they get a great meal, these are the menu options we usually recommend:
Pizza Options
Here, it’s not an issue to get just a slice of pizza. These slices are huge, anyway, since the pizzas measure 17 inches across. With just one slice, that gives your stomach more room to try more than one pizza version. And if you’re a newbie to Sbarro, here are the pizzas you really should try first:
Meat Primo
As the name indicates, this is made with meat lovers in mind. The meat here includes ham, sausage, pepperoni, and bacon to give you that oomph. With the grated parmesan cheese and the tomato sauce, you’re all set.
Double Duo Pepperoni
This item tends to come and go, but if it’s listed in the menu, you really should get a taste. The pepperoni pizza is a classic, but this one is even better. This time, you have two pepperoni layers, so you really get that pepperoni flavor.
The first layer gets you the regular Sbarro pepperoni. But on the second layer, you have a combo of Hormel Rosa Grande and traditional pepperoni. It’s a mixture that really gives your taste buds a treat.
There’s a non-spicy version of this pizza, but you should go with the regular spicy option. This means the pizza comes with the spicy pepper jack cheese that makes the pizza a lot more interesting.
Pepperoni
This is the classic pizza that just about everyone likes. If you’re Sbarro newbie buddy isn’t really feeling all that adventurous, then start them out with this pizza. They get the pepperoni along with the parmesan and mozzarella cheese, and they’re always happy.
Mama’s Meatball
Try the Mama’s meatball pizza, and you get a meat combo of Italian meatballs along with pork and beef. The meats are then topped with some yummy mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce.
The overall combo is quite a treat, and many longtime Sbarro fans say that it’s their favorite pizza here. It doesn’t hurt that you don’t usually find meatball pizza in many other pizza chains, and this particular meat mixture is just terrific.
Spinach and Tomato Pizza
This is not only delicious, but it’s one of the menu items that won’t have your dietician up in arms. It’s both yummy and nutritious. You have the special pairing of spinach and tomatoes that really work nicely together, along with the addition of parmesan and mozzarella cheese. The cheese combo in turn enhances the texture and flavor of the pizza.
Roman Veggie
This is another healthy option, and tasty as well. It’s a Roman-style pizza, which means you start with a square pizza measure 12 inches on each side, then you cut that into 6 slices.
This features a mix of roasted veggies, which include black olives, spinach, red pepper, red onion, portobello mushroom, and tomatoes. You then get some mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of parmesan.
This isn’t really all that cheesy, plus it’s not too heavy at all. And your nutritionist will at least acknowledge that you added some veggies to your Italian meal.
Romano Cheese
Plenty of people just want a classic cheese pizza, and this is terrific option. After all, you’re getting 4 different cheeses here, namely Romano cheeses, ricotta, parmesan, and mozzarella. The mozzarella and parmesan cheeses offer familiar flavors, while the ricotta adds some creaminess and smoothness to the texture. With the Romano cheeses, you get that salty and savory taste.
Mushroom
This is another pizza that might appeal to vegetarians, since it doesn’t have meat. It combines several types of mushrooms, namely shiitake, portobello, and white button. Then you also get mozzarella cheese and some parmesan.
Who says vegetarian options have to be bland? This is a flavorful pizza, and even the meal lovers like this option.
Other Add-Ons
Now that you have your pizza slices, you night want to add other stuff from the menu to complete the Sbarro experience. Start with the Garlic Cheesy Bread as your appetizer.
Then you might want to try the Greek Salad. It’s not only healthy, but it offers a nice balance to your pizza. But it also works as a meal in itself. You get the Romaine lettuce along with tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, Kalamata olives, and feta cheese. Then you have the Greek dressing, which you might want on the side to keep things healthy. It’s made with red wine vinegar, olive oil, garlic, and oregano.
You can also go with the Veggie Stromboli, White Cheddar Mac and Cheese, and Baked Ziti. All these options make for a wonderful Sbarro experience.
